Course description
What students make and do
This studio course introduces students to several art forms. Lessons may include acrylics, watercolor, clay, cartoons, anime and manga, color theory, perspective, composition, and introductory anatomy. Athena provides the core supplies, and students take their artwork home.
- Create observational sketches and an acrylic animal painting
- Mix colors and paint with watercolor
- Draw caricatures, anime, or manga characters
- Make a self-portrait or narrative collage
- Build a clay and found-object sculpture

How we adapt it
Adapted for age, experience, and schedule.
Younger students use guided shapes, color exercises, and accessible materials; older students can study perspective, composition, anatomy, and intentional stylistic choices. Beginners build fundamentals across each medium, while experienced artists pursue more individual interpretations. Short formats focus on one medium; longer programs create a varied portfolio.
