Dice and a map ready for a tabletop role-playing game

Course description

What students make and do

Students enter a guided tabletop adventure where choices have consequences and every participant helps shape the story. They create characters, learn the basic rules, investigate quests, solve puzzles, negotiate, and work as a team. The course builds sustained attention and collaborative storytelling without requiring prior experience.

  • Create and develop an original character
  • Explore a campaign setting and its lore
  • Solve quests, puzzles, and team challenges
  • Take turns guiding parts of the adventure as Dungeon Master
  • Complete a multi-session campaign finale

How the course can develop

This example shows one possible progression. The order and depth change with the group and contract.

  1. 01Learn the core rules and collaborative nature of the game
  2. 02Create characters with goals and abilities
  3. 03Enter the campaign setting and begin a quest
  4. 04Solve problems and begin rotating leadership
  5. 05Develop characters through choices, consequences, and battles
  6. 06Bring the campaign story to a conclusion

How we adapt it

Adapted for age, experience, and schedule.

Younger students can use simplified characters, rules, and shorter encounters; older students can take on deeper roleplaying, tactics, and Dungeon Master responsibilities. Beginners learn through an instructor-led adventure, while experienced players help shape or run the campaign. Short formats use a self-contained quest; longer programs support sustained character and campaign development.
