Course description

What students make and do

Students create an original theatrical piece as a company. They develop characters and a plot, write scenes, learn blocking, practice expressive voices and movement, and use improvisation to strengthen the work. The course concludes with a live performance for an invited audience when the setting allows.

  • Invent original characters and a story premise
  • Write and revise a short script
  • Develop scenes through improvisation
  • Block and rehearse an original production
  • Present a live final performance

Sample program path

How the course can develop

This example shows one possible progression. The order and depth change with the group and contract.

  1. 01Brainstorm characters, settings, and plot ideas
  2. 02Draft scenes using basic script structure
  3. 03Revise the script through group feedback
  4. 04Use improvisation to explore dialogue and character
  5. 05Block, rehearse, and combine the scenes
  6. 06Polish and present the original production

How we adapt it

Adapted for age, experience, and schedule.

Younger students use playful prompts, group storytelling, and shorter scenes; older students can develop more detailed scripts and production choices. Beginners receive structured roles and rehearsal guidance, while experienced performers take greater responsibility for revision and staging. Short formats produce a scene showcase; longer programs develop a complete original play.
